History of the Papier d'Arménie began in the late XIXst century. Auguste Ponsot discovered, in Armenia, that inhabitants had been scenting and disinfecting their houses by burning Benzoin, a well-known tree for his perfume. Auguste Ponsot decided with a pharmacist called Henri Rivier, to adapt this tradition in France. An ecological and cheap product. Useful product, disinfectant and odorous. Henri Rivier had the idea to dissolve Benzoin in alcohol, with a blotting paper. The Papier d'Arménie was born. A pleasant and aromatic mixture, that burns slowly without making flames. The Papier d'Arménie was a success to the Hygiene Exposure of 1888 and to the World Fair of 1889.
